Begin your quest  from Chania area, walk to the vibrant market hall and the beautiful Venetian Harbour. Drive to Kourtaliotiko Gorge, the Preveli monastery and the village of Argiroupolis.  Magnificent beaches like Elafonisi and Falasarna are located at the Western side of the Island. The famous Samaria Gorge is ideal for a daily trek.

On route to your next Hotel in Chersonissos area, The Palace of Knossos is located at the suburbs of Heraklion capital city. you can make several trips to the East and to the Dicti mountains. Enjoy magnificent views and hundreds of windmills on the way to the Lassithi plateau and visit the picturesque village Kritsa, the monastery Toplou and the famous Palm Beach of Vai. From the ports of Elounda and Plaka you can reach by boat the historic island of Spinalonga which inspired the author Victoria Hislop to write the bestseller ‘The Island’.

On your way back to Rethymnon area. Cross the island through the south coast and stop at the Roman capital Gortys and the coastal village Matala.  Enjoy a walk at the old Venecian city at Rethymnon. Drive to the central land, visit many traditional villages while the stunning landscape of Crete will escort your trip.

Day 1 Arrival at Chania airport. Pick up of your rental car and driving routes to the hotels. The first route of your self-drive is towards the hotel booked.
Overnight in or nearby Kavros area.
Days 2 There are beautiful places to discover in the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) and on the coast line of western Crete. Admire the excavation of Falasarna and its beautiful sandy beach. Enjoy the shades of the sea on the beach opposite of Elafanonissi and wade to the islet through the crystal clear waters. Your drive in the striking valley of Topolia promises nice views on the mountains and sea. The blue colors of the Gulf of Kissamos are inviting for a swim and/ or boat trip to Gramvousa.

Day 3 Departure from hotel with luggage. Taste the Venetian flair in the city of Chania. Stroll in the picturesque center along the port and smell the herbs in the market hall. In the serene monastery of Chrisopigi you meet the Greek Orthodox religion with its traditional handicrafts. Take a moment to relax in the village of Argiroupoli with its many springs of crystal clear water and the remains of the ancient city of Lappas.

Day 4 Discover the 4.000 years old center of the Minoan civilization in Europe. The Palace of Knossos will leave you breathless as you wonder over the technology and facilities of that period. Heraklion the lively capital of Crete with its Mediterranean flavors awaits you for a visit. Go to the Archaeological Museum; make a walk over the city walls, and sit down on a terrace near Morosini fountain.
In a drive through the island’s hilly countryside you see olives orchards and famous vineyards. Wine domains welcome visitors for wine tasting.

Day 5 Smell the aromas of Cretan herbs in the botanical garden of Bio Aroma producing essential oils and handmade herbal cosmetics. Enjoy the panoramic views on the blue shaded Gulf of Mirabello to Elounda, a quiet fishing village. Get on board a boat and sail to the island Spinalonga with its Venetian fortress that was also used as a leprosy colony. Spinalonga inspired the author Victoria Hislop to write the bestseller ‘The Island’.
Admire the coastline when driving to Agios Nikolaos, with its picturesque port and lake. Walk around and take delight in the panoramic views and the charming streets with shops selling a large assortment of typical goods and fine jewellery.

Day 6 Olive groves and vineyards are everywhere when crossing the island to the south coast. The Messara region hosts ancient places, villages, chapels and lovely bays. Stop at the Roman capital Gortys which was the stepping stone between East and West. Your visit of the Kalivianni Monastery promises colourful flowered alleys, and a view into the social character of the convent. Head on further to the coastal village Matala on the Libyan Sea. Years ago the place to be for hippies nowadays a popular beach resort. Enjoy here a refreshing swim or a leisurely Cretan lunch at a beach tavern.Make a break in Spili, a tranquil mountain village, where since the Venetian period water runs from the lion heads.

Day 7 Walk in the charming old quarter of Rethymnon with traces of civilizations and enchanting monuments.
See the Venetian harbor and the cosy streets, make a stroll along the sea and sit down on a terrace to enjoy the view.
At the Arkadi monastery you experience the history of the holocaust it suffered in 1866. The monastery is like a memorial for the freedom of the Turkish occupation.
The picturesque pottery village of Margarites is next to a beautiful green ravine offering stunning views on the hills and the Mediterranean Sea. Ceramic workshops are open for visitors to watch the tradition of Cretan pottery.
