|Day 1||Heraklion airport, Rethymnon (approx. 80 or 70 km depending arrival airport)
Arrival at either Chania International Airport or Heraklion International Airport. After completing the car rental formalities, you are about to start your holidays. Drive towards your first hotel in Rethymnon area and enjoy the beautiful views of the northern coastline. If you arrive in Heraklion Airport, make a stop in Rethymnon town and walk through the little alleys.
In case you arrive in Chania Airport, you can drive straight to the hotel or you can make a stop in the town of Chania and visit the part of the old town.
Overnight in Rethymnon areα
|Days 2-4||Rethymnon area, West Crete
When in Rethymnon, you have the great advantage of enjoying the beautiful nature, such as the Samaria Gorge; the largest natural gorge in Europe or exploring traditional villages and towns with a remarkable old harbour. Such villages are Vrisses, where you can taste homemade yoghurt with honey. Via a scenery route you come to Chania. Visit the lovely convent of Chrisopigi, in its museum you see fine traditional embroideries made by nuns. Chania, the former capital of Crete, has a pleasant old city centre. Strolling through the alleys and along the shops you come to the old Venetian port. See also the indoor market where you can buy local goods. Make on your way back a stop at Lake Kournas for a good meal or a drink at a terrace on the lake side.
Discover the enjoyable center of Rethymnon town. It still maintains its old aristocratic appearance, a mixture of Venetian and Turkish influences. Visit the Arkadi Monastery; due to the holocaust it suffered in 1866, it is like a memorial for the freedom of the Turkish occupation. In the lovely village of Margarites you can see small pottery workshops. Worth visiting is also the Sfedoni cave with impressive stalagmites and stalactites.

|Days 5-7||Elounda area, From West to East (approx.. 145 km) Departure with luggage
In the picturesque fishing village of Elounda, you may enjoy gentle walks or jump into the car and explore the surrounding area. There are sandy, as well as rocky beaches and crystal waters where you can spend the days swimming. The cultural aspect cannot be missed as the area of Sissi, closely located to the hotel, consists of excavations of the Minoan history. Great attraction close to the area is the Mirabello Gulf. Drive to the picturesque port town Saint Nicholas. Or stay in Elounda with its panoramic views of the island Spinalonga. You can sail from Elounda or Plaka in the gem clear waters to the former leper colony.
