Schedule

Arrival at the Athens airport. After completing the car rental formalities starts the self-drive round trip Greece. Go to the hotel for check in, and drive in the late afternoon to Cape Sounion to experience an amazing sunset.

Explore on foot the city centre of Athens. Wander around in the picturesque streets of Plaka and do some shopping in Monastiraki flea-market. Walk up the Acropolis to see the Parthenon and visit the Acropolis Museum with its valuable treasures. Take the funicular to the top of Lycabetus hill to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

Make an early start this morning and start heading toward the Peloponnesus. Make a photo stop near the bridge over the Corinth canal connecting the Peloponnesus with the mainland. Another impressive bridge is hanging nearby Rio – Antirio, east of Patras. Drive on to the village Olympia, home town of ancient Olympia, the roots of the modern Olympic Games.

Begin the day with a visit to the energetic site of ancient Olympia with its stadium and temples. Drive to Pylos village and stop on the way at Nestor’s Palace, the best preserved of all Mycenaean palaces in Greece. Enjoy in the picturesque village of Pylos the splendid views of the natural bay of Navarino protected by the little island of Sfaktiria. Also the village of Methoni dominated by a large Venetian castle, by the sea is worth seeing.

Dedicate today to one of the most picturesque areas of the South Peloponnesus. Drive to the village of Areopolis, and visit the Diros caves. Explore the caves by boat and see the extraordinary scenery created by nature and saline drops. Do not miss to visit, in the area of Mani, the village Vathia with its unique architecture.

Visit today Mystras a very important Byzantine citadel with well-preserved churches and monasteries with precious inner decorations and icons. Stop in the town Sparti and visit the olive oil museum to get an impression about the cultivation and harvest. Spend the afternoon in the picturesque town of Nafplion, it was the first capital of modern Greece. Walk in the narrow streets with beautiful restored classical buildings.

Relax in the beautiful seaside resort Tolo or make a one day cruise to the little islands of Hydra and Spetses. Alternatively on the Argolic plain await Epidaurus theatre and Mycenae beautiful famous places worth a visit. The region of Nemea is well known for its wine agronomy. Visit a winery for a wine tasting and introduction to wine cultivation.
